In 1978 my parents decided to call Toowoomba home after more than 14 years moving from city to city due to my Father's military career and transfers every 2 years. I remember Toowoomba being a town with a population of 70,000 people.
I said to my Mother that I wanted to make an impact in this town.
I was 14 years old, and I had my first Big Mac at McDonald's Toowoomba in Margaret Street. I saw Owner/Operator Clive Armitage running the restaurant and grabbed an application form and got a job flipping burgers and learning about business from Clive. I graduated from Centenary Heights State High School in 1983 and met Jimmy Aspromourgos who had just opened Rumours. My plan was to get into Radio and head to 4ZR in Roma but decided to work for Jim and be a mobile DJ and then was the in-house DJ at Rumours and when Jim opened the Powerhouse, I was given the opportunity to perform there.
I am passionate about Toowoomba and do not want to live anywhere else. Toowoomba has everything I want. I have friends, work colleagues, associates and have become a Community Leader and Influencer in this beautiful city. In 2023 the population is around 140,000 people and it is now a city.
Toowoomba has a post code of 4350 but it is More Than Just A Post Code.......
It's About Community.
